EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON THE NATURE OF THE POLYMORPHIC TRANSFORMATION IN THALLIUM.

The temperature dependence of the pressure for the forward and reverse thallium transformations in the temperature range from 18 to 95 degree C has been investigated with the aid of a piston gauge of a modified design. It has been found that an increase in temperature only slightly affects the pressure interval, over which transformations in thallium take place, which is unlike the bismuth I-II transformation. Extrapolation of the results indicates that above 162 degree C the hysteresis accompnaying the polymorphic transformation in thallium becomes zero. Refs.
