Kenaf Industries Ltd has executed option agreements on land on which it plans to plant a test crop of kenaf, a non-wood feedstock for the production of newsprint. The company signed option agreements giving it the right to sublease or purchase state land leases that encompass a contiguous parcel of 147,000 acres, 15 mile south of Parker, Ariz., where the company has proposed its second kenaf-based newsprint production plant. Currently, the optioned property is used as grazing land and has not been improved for crop production.
