This paper presents the results of measurements of the amplitude noise of a traveling-wave neon-helium laser, operating at a wavelength of 0. 63 mu m and excited by a transverse HF field. A comparison is made with the results obtained when this same laser is excited by a DC discharge (DCD). The laser tested had a four-mirror resonator with a perimeter of 40 cm and it could be excited both by a direct current and also by a transverse HF field with a frequency of 250 MHz. Equal quantities of the Ne**2**0 and Ne**2**2 isotopes were used as the active medium at a pressure of 2. 5 mm Hg.
