INFLUENCE OF TOLUIDINES AND ACRIDINE DERIVATIVES ON CORROSION OF 63/37 BRASS IN NITRIC ACID SOLUTION.

Of the inhibitors studied, (o-, m-, and p-toluidines, acridine, phenazine, and xanthine), o-toluidine and acridine were very effective. In the toluidine series the inhibiting power of the ortho isomer is superior to that of the para isomer. According to the results obtained, the relative order of inhibitive effectiveness of toluidines is o-toluidine greater than p-toluidine greater than m-toluidine. Of acridine and its derivatives it is acridine greater than xanthine greater than phenazine. The mechanism of the effect is discussed.
