With the complexity and density of modern LSI components increasing the functionality of any one circuit board, the number of signal/data lines which need to be linked to the pcb has grown in proportion. The traditional edge connector may well be forced out of the market as lower insertion forces are demanded and vapor phase reflow soldering is necessary to attach components to boards in surface mounting applications.
