Continuous measurements are reported of temperatures and air humidity from September to February of walls badly affected by rising damp; the site was a 300 years old building in Wismar in German Democratic Republic. By applying the basic theoretical assumption of B. Schwarz and of H. Werner and K. Gertis, it was found that mass transfer densities as well as moisture balance can be calculated. Of practical interest is the conclusion that damp walls do not dry out during the winter months, and therefore treatments for rising damp are effective only during the summer.
