A recent model for intense bedload sediment transport based upon the dynamics of collisional grain flows is summarized and extended with a discussion of bed resistance and boundary conditions. The model predicts decreased flow resistance and increased sediment transport at high shear stresses due to the presence of a granular-fluid layer near the bed.
