Exploratory experiments are reported which have shown that organic waste materials can be converted to gaseous fuel products composed essentially of CH//4, CO//2 and H//2 with a CO//2-free heating value in excess of 900 Btu/SCF. Furthermore, the overall conversion has been shown to be pressure independent over the range of 32-261 psia while the optimum temperature (650 - 750 degree C) for the described process is strongly dependent upon the composition of the primary gaseous reactants produced from the steam-carbon reaction which is catalyzed by the presence of alkali carbonates.
