Until recently, hyperbaric welding was limited to a maximum depth of 200 m. This article discusses a computer-controlled MIG/TIG system developed in the UK and Norway that allows welding to plumb new depths. The companies from Norway were Teleplan, Sintef and Norsk Hydro, and the UK's contributions were made by GEC Industrial Controls Advanced Welding Products Division, Leeds University and Cranfield Institute of Technology.
