The influence of rip-currents on the longshore transport of sediment is investigated by a mathematical model. The model describes the characteristics of the wave-induced, two-dimensional time-averaged horizontal flow on the shore. In combination with a sediment transport model for combined wave-current motion it is hereby possible to estimate the sediment transport pattern on a barred shore with rip-currents. The particular situation of a barred shore with a single bar parallel to the coastline is considered.
