In recent years comprehensive rationalization measures were taken in the kaolin industry of the G. D. R. which contributed to guaranteeing the quality of clay products with reduced quality of crude kaolin, and to improve the quality of certain grades of clay products. An important measure was the introduction of efficient hydrocyclones made of polyurethane, operating in two kaolin preparation plants of the G. D. R. In addition to remarkable improvement of handling and wear resistance of the polyurethane hydrocyclone compared with those of steel or porcelain, improvements in quality by raising the Al//2O//3 content and a considerable increase of recovery resulting from a sharp separation by classification have been achieved.
