Polymers and copolymers of vinyl chloride were prepared using azoisobutyronitrile enriched with carbon-13. The end-purpose derived from the initiator were studied by nmr spectroscopy. It was deduced that at 45 degree C the velocity constant for addition of the 2-cyano-2-propyl radical to methyl methacrylate is about 14 times that for the addition to vinyl chloride.
