A method for qualitative determination of the composition of flexible polyurethanes using IR spectra is considered. Polyethers in the polyurethane are identified by a wide intense absorption band inthe region 1120 cm** minus **1, and with some polyethers a band is found in the range 2700 - 3000 cm** minus **1. Polyurethanes based on polyesters have a more intense band at 1730 cm** minus **1 than at 1540 - 1560 cm** minus **1. Absorption bands for aromatic diisocyanates are also given, also data on the determination of diamine chain extenders, water and glycol extenders.
