On the viscous flow past a sphere: A simplified description

摘要
We apply a new asymptotic technique for nonlinear problems, namely the homotopy analysis method (HAM) proposed by LIAO, to give analytic solutions at the 10th-order approximation of the viscous flow past a sphere. Different from the well-known 2nd-order approximation of Proudman and Pearson, our approximations are uniformly valid in both near and far field of the flow, and our drag coefficient formulas agree better with experimental data in a larger region of Reynolds number.
