Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 ceramics produced by modified two-stage calcination process

Pyrochlore-free lead magnesium niobate ceramics produced by a modified two-stage calcination process are studied. One calcination step of the two-stage calcination process was omitted in this method. Without calcining, columbite MgNb2O6 and PbO were sintered directly to form pyrochlore-free and dense Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3 ceramics. The grain size is about 6 μm and the dielectric constant reaches 17000 at -9 °C under 1 kHz. An increase in sintering temperature resulted in an increase in maximum dielectric constant.
