Results of Stress Relaxation and Creep Tests of 316 Stainless Steel at 800 degree C.

A sequence of stress relaxation tests from the same initial stress showed stabilisation of the relaxed fractin of stress of a type AISI 316 stainless steel at 800 degree C. This represents the exhaustion of the deformation process of the material at this temperature. Results from the relaxation tests were obtained using a recently proposed model. The slope n from the log epsilon multiplied by x log sigma /E curve obtained by relaxation (6,80) closely matched that determined by creep tests (n equals 6,50). This indicates the possibility of determination by stress relaxation of the parameters usually calcualted by creep.
