Ion conduction in three-layered ion-conductor systems was analyzed and the isothermal transient ionic current (ITIC) and the frequency-dependent impedance were determined. Both the ITIC and impedance were found to show markedly different behaviors in the limits of low and high ion concentrations. For lower ion concentrations diffusion was the dominant process and there was a significant exchange of ions between the layers.
