摘要：

The effect of bad design on productivity in the fabrication of welded structures is indicated. The types of failures that can occur as a result of poor design of welded structures are reviewed. The role of defect acceptance criteria in ensuring high-quality design of welded structures is stressed. Areas that a design engineer can investigate to cut costs and improve productivity are cited.
