In the reported experiments, the influence of electrolytes on the electrode potentials and electrokinetic properties of the anthracites of the Donets basin have been investigated with the aim of ascertaining the nature of the potential jump and the interrelationship between surface electrical processes and flotation behavior. It is shown that the electrode reaction of anthracites reduces to the exchange of H** plus and OH** minus ions between the surface and at the solution. This indicates the presence of various surface oxides determining the physicochemical properties of the anthracites. Br** minus and I** minus anions lower the electrode potentials of anthracites, which shows the possibility of a specific interaction with the surface of the coal. For the flotation of anthracites in solutions of electrolytes the electrode potential is a more accurate criterion of flotability then the electrokinetic potential.
