It has been experimentally found that with plasma-MIG welding, the requirements for clad-layers can be fulfilled for various materials. Austenitic and ferritic stainless steel can be cladded with a minimum penetration and dilution. When cladding copper alloys, the phenomenon of copper penetration occurred; the amount of ppenetration depends on the alloy composition. In cladding stainless steel onto copper, the phenomenon of copper penetration did occur again. Plasma-MIG cladding of stainless steel on copper resulted in less copper penetration compared to manual metal arc welding.
