APPROACH TO THE PLANNING AND DESIGN OF TRANSIT SHELTERS.

This paper presents the theses that transit shelters have a significant role in the community and in the transit system and sets forth an innovative approach to the planning and design of shelters and describes what a shelter facility is versus what it ought to be. It also describes the types of activities that are involved in the development of the transit shelter and the types of functional, social, financial, physical, and user issues that should be considered. The benefits that can be derived through the use of this approach are discussed.
