The recent trend in the chemical industry towards high value, low tonnage products re-emphasises the need in Fluid Processing to generate new ideas and new approaches to problems, as well as to apply the most recent experimental measurement and computer modelling techniques to traditional problem areas. This paper reviews some of the recent advances which have been made and looks forward to the challenge of applying and adapting some of the more novel techniques to the chemical industry's changing needs.
