摘要
Lamellar tearing within steel plate can occur near restrained welded joints as the result of shrinkage stresses across the thickness of the plate - in the so-called ″through-thickness″ or ″Z″ direction. A practical method for minimizing tearing is to specify steels which will absorb through-thickness shrinkage stresses without ″microfissuring″ . An analysis of lamellar tearing, the benefit of controlled sulfur content, effect of second-phase particles and an evaluation of transverse toughness in a rare-earth treated steel are described.
