This paper presents a rigorous method for analyzing multi-story rectangular frames with shear walls subjected to cyclic lateral loading with elastic-postelastic behavior of all frame members taken into consideration. The inelastic frame analysis method developed was tested by comparing calculated characteristics with those observed from tests on a reinforced concrete frame. The calculated load-deformation characteristics of reinforced concrete frames with walls show a good agreement with the results obtained by the experiments. But the behavior of the assumed inelastic rotational spring for the shear wall were slightly different from that of the actual wall in some cases. The inelastic frame analysis method developed is practical in predicting the precise behavior of reinforced concrete frame with shear walls. Refs.
