INFLUENCE OF AROMATIC HYDROCARBONS ON OXIDATION OF LIQUID PARAFFIN TO SECONDARY ALCOHOLS.

This paper presents results of an experimental work in which effect of aromatic hydrocarbons on the course of oxidation of C//1//5-C//2//1 paraffin to secondary alcohols was studied. Results indicate a very clear dependence of paraffin oxidation rate on the structure of the aromatic hydrocarbons present in these materials. Analytical data of oxidation products are presented which indicate that higher concentrations of aromatic hydrocarbons lead to greater amounts of impurities in the product. The alcohols produced from paraffins with high contents of aromatic hydrocarbons tend to be darker in color and higher in ester number than alcohols produced from refined paraffins. 8 refs.
