RECENT DEVELOPMENTS IN TRANSPORT SYSTEMS.

The paper reviews the progress which is being made with the development of less conventional coal mining transport systems. The use of both pneumatic and hydraulic pipelines for the transport of mineral is described and consideration is given to the further development potential for pipeline transport. The concept of the use of free-steered transport applied to the movement of men and materials has reached the stage of practical application and the development of roadway surfacing techniques and vehicles is described. The ways in which conventional rail-mounted transport systems can be improved are proposed.
