Adaptive dispersion compensation (ADC) at 40 Gbit/s RZ transmission was investigated using fiber Bragg gratings. The ADC device controlled both the centre wavelength of the filter and the group delay characteristics independently. The simple monitoring of the extracted-clock level and the temperature control of the 40 GHz frequency component enabled automatic control of the adaptive dispension compensator. The characteristics of feedback control were depicted by monitoring the extracted 40 GHz clock intensity.
