Components of a structure are assumed to be made by cross-plying symmetrically different layers of an unidirectional composite material of a random pattern with respect to the midplane of the component. The failure process is described in terms of a special modulus reduction scheme. A governing equation system for the initial boundary- value problem of the dynamic deformation and the contact of composite plates and shells of revolution with completely rigid bodies has been developed using the virtual-work principle. The numerical method for the formulated initial boundary-value problem is based on an explicit finite-element scheme. Some analytical results of the deformation and failure processes of composite structural components under pulsed loads and impact of completely rigid spherical projectiles have been presented.
