The South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) mark specification in self-contained self-rescuers (SCSRs) combines the tests and requirements contained in private specification CKM 839 of 1998, En 400 and EN 401, as well as recently developed tests. The standard contains requirements with regard to the following aspects: design; durability and mechanical strength/functional performance tests; practical performance tests; instructions for use and technical data/ergonomic assessment; training and support materials; training units; and escape assessment.
