The method of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) activity detection to forecast rockbursts hazard is investigated. Results show that the higher stress associated with increased rockburst hazard in rocks near a mine working excites an increase of their natural EMR. A comparison of EMR data with a standard geochemical measurement of a volume of drilled coal rubble in coal seams enables the development of an EMR criterion for rockburst hazard forecasting. The degree of rockburst hazard in mine workings can be fixed by a given level of electromagnetic radiation, that is specific to the rock type.
