摘要
In an attempt to create the ultimate closed ecosystem, science has replicated all the processes taking place within the Earth on a microcosmic level. The aim was to generate knowledge regarding lowering costs and the addition of aesthetic appeal for long-term space flight. The most popular ecosystem ever built was the Biosphere 2, a 5,000,000 cubic feet Closed Ecological Life Support System. In this facility five types of ecosystems exist; savanna, marsh, desert, tropical rain forest and a 35 foot deep ocean. Tunnels regulate the airflow. The first stage of the project was not perfect. From this it was learned that creating a perfect closed ecosystem is a hard task. Currently, plans are underway to perfect this type of ecosystem in order to obtain its rewards.
