Printed circuit boards have held sway in electronics equipment design for many years but attention is now turning towards alternative methods of circuits creation, such as flexible, sculptured, 3D and multiwire techniques. Like many other technical advances, flexible circuits were developed for use in the aerospace and military fields where reliability, light weight, small size and repeatability are paramount. Having proved their worth in such projects over some 20 years, flexibles can now be found in a whole range of domestic, automotive, communications, instrumentation and computer applications, where cost is one of the most important considerations.
