INFLUENCE OF GROUND WATER ON THE DYNAMIC CHARACTERISTICS OF FOOTINGS ON SAND

The experiments were conducted with different static and dynamic loads at each position of the water table. The effects of change in the level of water table on the resonant frequency of the system, the vibration amplitude at resonance the dynamic settlement, and the damping factor were determined. The results showed a decrease in the resonant frequency as well as the damping factor with rise of water table. The reduction in the resonant frequency was found to be about 25%. In the completely inundated condition the dynamic settlement was found to be about 3 to 6 times that in the dry condition.
