The mechanism and strength of continuous deep beams failing in shear remain largely unexplained and very little information is available in the literature. To gain some insight into this aspect, twelve two-span continuous beams with four different span-to-depth ratios were tested till failure under symmetrical loading and their behavior was studied. Based on the test data, an empirical equation is suggested for estimating the shear capacity of beams expeditiously.
