The focusing parameters of a deflecting magnet used to focus the external beam from a 150-keV accelerator are obtained. Particular attention is paid to the effect of the fringing field on the focusing properties of the deflecting magnet. The influence of magnetic fringing field on the trajectories of charged particles is determined in a second-order approximation. The arising effects are either equal for the whole beam of particle trajectories or they are almost independent of the special fringing field distribution. The simulation of charged particle beam transport systems has been studied in many laboratories but it was restricted to beams with small phase space. A rapid procedure which permits one to determine the focusing characteristical parameters has been developed.
