The Distribution Technology Park opened at Colchester in April 1989. This paper gives the background to its origin and records progress. The purpose of the Technology Park is to provide a controlled environment for applications of promising new developments and subsequent operational learning. It forms a focus for collaboration between manufacturers and utilities and a showpiece for all that is best in modern distribution technology.
