Aimed to reveal relationships of glass mixture composition to refractive index for lead-bearing flint glass the investigations were carried out into the SiO2-PbO-K2O system glass melted in laboratory electric furnace at 1480° C. Considerable heterogeneity of glass mixture chemical composition was found within a unit charge. It resulted in heterogeneity of glass bath. Chemical analysis showed that glass composition averageing occurred only on melting during 49.5h. As a result of studies a conclusion was made that chemical heterogeneity of glass mixture had no great effect on refractive index of flint lass, provided that glass melting period was sufficiently prolonged.
