Analysis on the wear performance of Si3N4 ceramic and chilled cast iron under unlubricated condition

Wear mechanism for couple consisting of Si3N4 ceramic and chilled cast iron under unlubricated condition were studied through block-pin test. Morphology is analyzed with Cambridge S200 Scanning Electron Microscope, and chemical element is tested with AN10000 Energy Dispersive Spectroscope of X-ray. The results reveal that the adhesive wear and fatigue wear are dominant. According to the regression analysis of test data, we found that the effects of load on wear rates of Si3N4 ceramic and chilled cast iron are much more remarkable than those of sliding speed in the test range.
