摘要：

The thyristor is one of the most important building blocks in modern convertor equipment used for industrial drives, locomotives, high-voltage d. c. (HVDC) equipment and reactive power compensation (SVC). Since the introduction of the thyristor 25 years ago there has been a dramatic increase in its power capability. Substantial development work is now going on with gate turn-off (GTO) thyristors and light-triggered thyristors in parallel with the work on conventional thristors.
