On the basis of a solution to the problem of the slip of a rigid cylinder on a viscoelastic base with an arbitrary discrete relaxation time spectrum, the necessary analytic relations are obtained which make it possible to establish a relation between the strain component of the friction coefficient and the slip rate. It is shown that hysteresis phenomena lead to a disruption of the symmetry of the contact pressure distribution and to a shift of the contact zone center in the direction of the cylinder slip. A method of calculating the strain component of the friction coefficient is outlined. The results of a calculation for a material with two relaxation times are compared with results obtained earlier for a model of a standard linear body.
