OBJECTIVE: A HPLC method was established for the determination of related substances and content of salbutamol sulfate sustained release tablets. METHODS: Salbutamol sulfate was separated on an ODS column with the mobile phase consisted of phosphate buffer and methanol (90:10) and detected at 276 nm. RESULTS: The standard curve was linear over the range of 20∼70 μg&middotmL-1 and the linear equation of salbutamol sulfate was A = 35 334c - 29.6, r = 0. 999 9. The precision of the assay was good (RSD = 0.36%, n = 6) with the average recovery 100.1% (RSD = 0.60%, n = 6). CONCLUSION: The proposed method appeared to be simple, rapid, accurate and reliable.
