Oxidation resistance of reaction-formed silicon carbide ceramics

摘要
The oxidation behavior of reaction-formed silicon carbide (RFSC) ceramics at 1150 and 1350°C was studied by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), microscopy, and x-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. Initial weight loss was followed by passive oxidation, with enhanced kinetics (kp). At both temperatures, the only solid oxidation product was cristobalite.
