摘要
Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) has driven numerous transitions in carrier infrastructures that consequently underpin their services, their business goals, following ATM to a dense core with multiservice flexibility at the edge. This transition is driven and cost justified partly by the demand for broadband service interfaces, primarily by the immediate need to scale frame relay and Internet backbones. Existing services are driving the adoption of ATM and improved business models and opportunities stemming from ATM backbone adoption will definitely change the dynamics of telecommunications to a very considerable degree.
