LIGHTING RESEARCH AND LIGHTING DESIGN BRIDGING THE GAP.

The second part of the article discusses problems associated with the concept of veiling reflections, discomfort glare, light source color properties, and luminance distribution. The gaps between lighting research and design in these and other areas are pointed out and the way to bridge the gap is outlined. The questions the lighting designer should ask himself about an area of research are listed in a table, together with some sample answers for the effect of illuminance on office work. Another table lists questions the lighting researcher should ask about any proposed research project and some example answers. The questions the researcher must answer are basically why should there be interest in this area, what is already known, what are the problems with the experiments, and who is likely to be interested in the results.
