A review is presented of the work of several researchers with particular emphasis on the work of R. Berker. His analysis of the flow of a Navier-Stokes fluid has been extended in several different directions. The author interprets the variables in Berker's equations as the components of a displacement field rather than a velocity field and uses the resulting equation to discuss pseudo-planar motions and deformations of non-linear elastic materials. 19 Refs.
