Impact of lump defects in transmission fibers on the performance of distributed fiber Raman amplifiers

A numerical method for the point defect impact in transmission fibers on back-pumped fiber Raman amplifiers was derived, considering both loss and reflection effects. Characteristics of gain, amplified spontaneous Raman scattering and double Rayleigh backscattering in a back-pumped fiber Raman amplifier with point defect were studied separately, and the comprehensive effect of the point defect was discussed by equivalent receiver sensitivity.
