A procedure and results of research on the effect of preliminary cyclic overload and underload on the vibration decrement and residual life of cyclically strengthened 40th steel are presented. It is shown that aging results in a decrease of the vibration decrement irrespective of an increase or a decrease in residual life of the material under study.
