Thermal spray coatings reduce wear and corrosion on calender rolls

Thermal spray coatings resist surface degradation on calender rolls and therefore provide improved, more consistent paper quality. Extended roll change intervals resulting from coating use reduce costs. Laboratory tests and actual performance data influence coating selection for specific calender applications. Certain coatings have the superior characteristics needed to perform well in hard-nip, soft-nip, and supercalender stacks. Considerable experience shows that coated calender rolls provide improved sheet profile and finish to enhance runnability and print quality.
