The feasibility of converting light pyrolysis fuel oil (a steam cracking byproduct) into jet fuel was assessed. The raw aromatic fuel oil was hydro-stabilized and converted into naphthenic products by hydrogenation in pilot plant operation. The fully hydrogenated fuel showed excellent cold properties, high heat of combustion values on volume basis and met nearly all specifications on kerosine type fuels. Conceptual process design and related economics indicated the product cost was competitive with other petroleum products.
