REPORT ON THE SEVENTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF THE NEUROELECTRIC SOCIETY ON ″ELECTRICAL, SURGICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL MANAGEMENT OF PAIN″ (NEW ORLEANS, LOUISIANA, NOVEMBER 20-23 1974. )

In addition to the central topic of pain, the Conference was concerned with the effects of electrical currents on behavioral and physiological systems. One of its most salient features was that of providing an interdisciplinary forum for anesthesiologists, physiologists, neurologists, neurosurgeons, pharmacologists, neuropsychologists, biochemists, biomedical engineers and other interested scientists. There were papers in basic and applied research on the effects of focal and diffuse electrical currents on the central and peripheral nervous systems as well as clincal papers dealing with the management of pain. The keynote address, and 37 regular communications are summarized, out of more than 50 communications presented. The Conference was subdivided into several sessions: Plenary, Techniques, Impedance, Effects and Pain.
